War Resisters' International

Last week, we were in Nicosia, Cyprus, holding a 3-day training, 'Gender and Countering Youth Militarisation', with activists from #Greece, #Turkey, #Russia, #Israel and #Palestine as well as #Cyprus. That was a fruitful long weekend for WRI with lots of enthusiasm and input from the participants. Together, we explored gendered dimensions of youth militarisation within our own societies as well as discussing how we can work internationally to counter these processes.

We are grateful to all our participants and participating organisations. Special thanks to Kuir Kıbrıs Derneği - Queer Cyprus Association -with whom we have also held a public forum on our experiences of militarism-, Turning the Tide and Şiddetsizlik Eğitim ve Araştırma Merkezi, both of whom supported our event with their amazing trainers.

Queer Cyprus is a civil society movement that started in 2008 with the name of “Initiative Against Homophobia” to change the discriminatory laws in the north of Cyprus and to create public opinion for the rights and freedoms of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans and Intersex people. Queer Cyprus embraces diversity and wages a feminist, anti-militarist, ecologist and veganist struggle against all forms of oppression.
